The public library and Friends of the Library held their first Smartypants Olympics, Saturday night, with 25 teams squeezing into the Veterans Room for a trivia contest. The three top teams were awarded Olympic-style medals. Becca Martin, creator of the blog site Live Here Oak Park (livehereoakpark.com) fielded a team of fellow bloggers called “Oak Park Tweeps,” some of whom had never met before. But they still managed to come in first.
Festival Theatre’s team of Galen Gockel, Belinda Bremner, Jack Hickey, Dan Marco, Lucy Carr and Jack Dickens finished second.

Children’s Librarian Rory Parilac was a key organizer of the event, MCed by Keith Fiels, executive director of the American Library Association and a River Forest resident. In fact, he resides with library Director Dee Brennan.
