On March 3, a cigarette fiend resorted to retail theft in order to allay his craving for nicotine. Consequently, Puff’s Discount Store at 7756 Madison in River Forest suffered a $129.98 loss According to a clerk at Puff’s, a man walked into the store at around 4 p.m. and asked for two cartons of Newport 100’s cigarettes. The clerk obliged his request, retrieved the two cartons and placed them on the counter. The thief then applied some sloppy trickery: he asked for an additional carton of smokes, and as the clerk turned around to again accommodate his order, the robber grabbed the two cartons of Newport’s and took off running. The clerk immediately called River Forest Police and a report was filed.

Robbery

Leekwan A. Carson, 42, of the 6700 block of S. Parnell St. in Chicago was arrested and charged with robbery on the afternoon of March 5. Chicago Police apprehended Carson on the 0-100 block of Leamington Ave. and turned him over to Oak Park Police.

A woman was robbed of her purse on the night of March 1 while walking on the 500 block of South Ave. A thief approached her from behind, snatched her bag and fled. The victim reported her that her driver’s license, credit cards, cash, and cellular phone were the articles of significant value, worth roughly $220.

DUI and/or drug possession

On March 4, Jenelle Taylor, 24, of the 500 block of N. Michigan Ave. in Chicago, was arrested on the 400 block of Harrison St. in Oak Park and charged with DUI and being in possession of a controlled substance.

James Kienzle, 31, of the 400 block of Harvey Ave. in Western Springs, was pulled over on the 6600 block of Roosevelt Rd. in Oak Park and charged with DUI early March 6.

Ricardo Pizana, 37, of the 3400 block of S. 61st Ct. in Cicero was arrested and received an aggravated DUI on the night of March 3. Oak Park Police doled out the aggravated DUI charge because Pizana did not have a driver’s license.

Terry Dwyer, 47, a resident of the 800 block of N. East Ave. in Oak Park, was stopped by Oak Park Police on the 1100 block of North Blvd. on the night of March 3, and charged with DUI.

Theft, criminal trespassing, battery

On March 7, Carnet Williams, 46, of the 100 block of N. Kenilworth Ave. in Oak Park, was arrested and charged with felony retail theft and battery.

Oak Park Police apprehended Torrey McMahan, 20, of the 2600 block of N. Spaulding Ave. in Chicago, at Dominick’s grocery store on 250 Lake St on the night of March 3. McMahan was subsequently charged with retail theft.

On the night of March 3, car thieves stole a silver 2003 Jeep Liberty valued at $11,000 from the 700 block of Van Buren St. in Oak Park. The SUV is a four-door with Illinois license plate number K607676.

Anthony Morris, 42, of the 5900 block of W. Race in Chicago, was arrested and charged with felony retail theft on March 1 at Dominick’s on 259 Lake St. in Oak Park.

On the evening of March 4, a felony theft resulting in a loss of over $300 occurred on the 1300 block of Forest Ave. in River Forest.

Kenneth Goodman, 63, was arrested and charged for criminal trespassing and attempted retail theft at Jewel grocery store on 7525 Lake St. in River Forest. The incident occurred on the morning of March 4.

Kristopher Hoeksama was arrested and charged with retail theft after removing $72 worth of groceries from Whole Foods on 7245 Lake St. in River Forest on March 3.

At some point on March 1, criminals stole a $200 stainless steel microwave from First United Church on 848 Lake St. in Oak Park.

Burglary

A black Schwinn Cruiser worth roughly $450 was stolen from the backyard of a home on the 200 block of S. Euclid Ave. in Oak Park, on March 7. The offender was seen fleeing southbound through a nearby alley after taking the bike.

Sometime between December of last year and March 5, a trunk containing a collection of items believed to be worth $576 was taken from the crawl space of a home on the 1000 block of Wesley Ave. in Oak Park. Access was gained through an unlocked door leading to the crawl space.

On the eve of March 2, a burglar entered a garage on the 1100 block of S. Harvey St. in Oak Park and stole a purple “Giant” bicycle, a green Hitachi saw, and a gray case containing a Craftsmen socket set. The total loss is estimated at $650.

Battery, assault, resisting arrest

In the early morning hours of March 5, Frank Adams, 40, of the 4800 block of W. Wabansia St. in Chicago, was arrested on the 800 block of S. Taylor Ave. in Oak Park and charged with assault and resisting a peace officer.

On the afternoon of March 5, a student at OPRF High School was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated battery. According to the Oak Park Police, the youth allegedly attacked a counselor and a teacher at the school.

Timothy Bridges, 42, of the 1800 block of S. 9th Ave. in Maywood, was arrested in Oak Park on the 800 block of Lake St. on the afternoon of March 4 and charged with battery.

Around dusk on March 3, Edward Sell, 52, of the 700 block of N. Humphrey Ave., was arrested on the 800 block of Lake St. and charged with domestic battery.

On the night of March 1, at 7 p.m. Allan Parungao, 41, of the 100 block of N. Marion St., was arrested at the 500 block of S. Maple St. and charged with domestic battery.

Roy Smith, 42, of the 100 block of S. Austin Blvd., was apprehended at his home and charged with domestic battery on the night of March 2.

On March 1, Oak Park Police charged Chicago resident Ollie Lee, 39, of the 5900 block of W. Rice St., with battery and aggravated assault.

On the eve of March 2, a large white pickup truck reportedly struck the rear of a green Oldsmobile Intrigue while the latter was parked on the 7500 block of North Ave. in River Forest. According to witnesses the truck fled the scene.

These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Oak Park and River Forest police departments March 1-7. Not all incidents that occurred are listed. Anyone named in reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
