Nearly 650 guests, many Oak Parkers among them, gathered at Christ the King Jesuit College Prep School in Austin on Feb. 19 for the King of Hearts Gala.
slideshowThe evening of dining, dancing, entertainment and a live auction cast the spotlight on the school’s recently opened $28 million state-of-the art building at 5088 W. Jackson in Chicago.

Christ the King is the first Catholic high school on Chicago’s West Side in 85 years. The school welcomed its first class in August 2008. Based on the Cristo Rey model of incorporating a spiritual foundation into a strong academic program, the school is an option for students who would otherwise not have access to a private high school education.

The gala, which was expected to attract about 500 guests, also exceeded fundraising goals. It raised more than $220,000, which will be used to offset tuition costs for students.
