“The Annual Search Is On!” shouts the press release from the Mrs. Illinois America Pageant. The Illinois director of this prestigious pageant, identified only as “Marcie” (she’s that well known) asked us to put out the call for the “new Mrs. Oak Park.” We’re not sure there has ever been one, but there’s always a first time for everything.

Once selected, Mrs. Oak Park will move on to the Mrs. Illinois Pageant, July 24, at the Bolingbrook Performing Arts Auditorium, competing for over $15,000 in prizes. There’s no upper age limit (you have to be at least 18) or performing talent. Now in its 34th year, the pageant “is dedicated to recognizing the one person who contributes so much to modern family life … America’s married woman!” (Apparently, Mr. America doesn’t contribute “so much.”)

“While beauty and physical fitness are key elements in the competition, Mrs. Oak Park contestants are also urged to voice their opinions on marriage, community and important issues of the day.” Well, heck, they already do that in our Viewpoints section every week.

We nominate our own columnist, Virginia Seuffert.

If anyone is interested, you can either e-mail pageants@mrsillinoisamerica.com or contact “Marcie” at the Mrs. Illinois office, 630-325-4305.
