Jack D. Aldrich, 88, a longtime resident of Oak Park and former resident of Delavan, Wis., died Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, at the Veterans Home in Manteno. 

He was born on May 8, 1921, in Des Moines, Iowa. In World War II, he had served in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded a Bronze Battle Star and a Purple Heart for multiple injuries sustained during the Allied landing and the battle at Anzio, Italy.

He was a 61-year member of the American Legion Post 95 in Delavan, where he also served as post commander for two years.

Jack Aldrich is survived by his nephew Robert (Robin) Bruce Jr.; three nieces, Barbara Watson, Joyce O’Brien and Priscilla Bruce; and many grand- and great-grandnieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth Bruce Sr. Burial will be at Forest Home Cemetery, in Forest Park, on Wednesday, Jan. 6. Arrangements were handled by Williams-Kampp Funeral Home in Wheaton.
