The Friars went 2-1 at the National Invitational Scholastic Showcase held in Jamestown, N.Y. over the weekend.
Fenwick fell to Holy Ghost Prep 3-2 on Saturday. Fenwick was trailing 3-1 when Aiden Verbeke’s goal with 38 seconds cut the lead to one and the Friars nearly tied the game at the buzzer.
Matt Crook led Fenwick in a 5-4 victory over North Broward Prep (Fla.) in the first game. Crook scored two goals in the win, while Verbeke added a goal and two assists.
Fenwick crushed McDowell Prep (Penn.) 7-3. The Friar forward line of Ryan Fitzgerald (2 goals, 3 assists), Brendan Fitzgerald (goal, 3 assists) and Kale Johnstone (3 assists) dominated the game.
The Friars went 2-1-1 at the Loyola Thanksgiving Tournament.
Fenwick downed York 5-4 to open the tournament. Greyson Feichtinger broke a 4-4 tie in the third period with a pinpoint deflection off a Brendan Conroy shot.
Fenwick also racked up a victory against Barrington 8-2. Nick Chiappetta had 20 saves in the win.
Trailing 4-1 to Indiana powerhouse Hamilton Southeast in the third period, the Friars came back to force a tie. Feichtinger scored with .9 seconds remaining to knot the game at 5-5. Karl Langhans finished with 25 saves in the draw.
Fenwick’s only loss came to eventual tournament champ New Trier Green, who downed the Friars 7-2.
Verbeke was named to the All-tournament team.
