It’s not corruption, but it’s not exactly virtue.
In the recent Oak Park Public Library newsletter, I learned that State Rep. La Shawn Ford and state senators Don Harmon and Kimberly Lightford each contributed $100,000 to landscaping Maze Branch Library.
Our state is not only broke, it’s a deadbeat. State employees are required to take unpaid days off; and vendors, like medical clinics, get paid a year late if ever. Yet, it seems each of the legislators get an allowance to go around handing out giant cardboard checks in front of the local press. Are they in touch with reality?
Maybe Wednesday Journal could do a Freedom of Information Act request and find out how big their allowances are for cardboard checks.
