Marjorie Koenig, 69, Piano and first grade teacher, active volunteer
Marjorie Helen Koenig, 69, of Oak Park, died on Oct. 30, 2009. Born on Nov. 6, 1939 in Altamont, she attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, graduating in 1960. She taught first grade for four years then private piano lessons for children and adults for over 40 years. A very active member of Grace Lutheran Church, she taught 3-year-old Sunday school for 25 years, did cooking for youth retreats, chairing and serving for the annual bazaar, and helping coordinate funeral luncheons. Her other volunteer involvement included the board of Friends of Lutheran World Relief and the Institutional Review Board at Loyola University Medical Center. First and foremost, she was a devoted wife, loving parent, doting Nana, and great friend to many.
Marj Koenig is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jerry; her children, Kendall (Connie) Koenig, Kurt (Brenda) Koenig, and Karla (Bill) Koehne; her three brothers, Marlin (Frieda) Will, Corwin (Wendy) Will, and Mike (Debbie) Will; and her grandchildren, Karl, Kevin, Kaleb, Kristian, Madeline, Leah, Aiden, Ethan, and Ryan.
Visitation was held Nov. 3 at Grace Lutheran Church. The memorial service takes place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Grace Lutheran, 7300 W. Division in River Forest 60305. Donations to Grace Lutheran and Friends of Lutheran World Relief may be sent directly to the church.
