On Wednesday, Oct. 21, I went to the Circuit Court of Cook County in Maywood to file an appeal. [Running in circles over a parking ticket, Viewpoints, Oct. 21] It took me more than 30 minutes to find a parking lot, and another 15 minutes to get into the building because of security.

I spoke with a very friendly gentleman who chuckled when I told him why I came. He informed me that it costs $146 to file an appeal. He said that I could request the money back from the village if I win. He said that in the last year, there has been an increase in Oak Park citizens inquiring about appealing similar tickets. He estimates that he alone talks with 14 a week. Many are elderly people who are given tickets for not having handicapped stickers when they do have them. He said that unfortunately very few file an appeal because of the cost.

I will file an appeal. I will be out $146, but I believe that it is worth it.
