The fourth annual Alumni Family Lunch, held on the mall of Oak Park and River Forest High School on homecoming, Oct. 3, was a great success, bringing alumni together and helping raise money program scholarships for current high school students. We were happy in particular to celebrate with the classes of 1969, 1979, 1984, 1989 and 1999, all of which had reunion festivities this month.

We would like to thank our major event sponsor, the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation, whose contribution helped ensure that the day was a financial success for the Alumni Association, as well as the generous support of our other sponsors, John Perna and Sen. Don Harmon.

The Alumni Association is particularly grateful to OPRF for providing space, facilities, equipment and staff to ensure the success of our event. Special thanks to Robert Zumallen and the building and grounds staff, as well as Anthony Svejda and the Marching Huskies, who provided wonderful entertainment for visiting alumni. Michelene Piekarski and the food service staff provided great tailgate-style food and donated a portion of the proceeds back to the Alumni Association for our scholarship program. And we couldn’t have welcomed families with kids to our event without the help of the Tau Gamma volunteers who are always there when we need them.

Since 2003, the Alumni Association has provided grants totaling more than $80,000 to over 200 students who have attended spring and summer programs in areas as varied as marine biology, physics and music camp. This has been possible only through the generosity of our members, contributors and sponsors.

We invite all area alumni to contact the Alumni Association at 434-3281, or visit our Web site at to learn about reunions, networking opportunities and our other events throughout the year. The Alumni Association is here to be a resource for you.
