With the opening of his campaign office on Saturday afternoon, Oak Parker Ade Onayemi will take his first public steps in the run for Cook County’s board of commissioners.

The former District 97 school board president will be challenging incumbent Earlean Collins for the commissioner’s seat in the 1st District, which includes Oak Park and the West Side of Chicago.

Wednesday Journal first reported Onayemi’s intention to run on Aug. 5.

Onayemi will officially announce his candidacy and kick off his campaign at his new headquarters at 5845 W. Chicago Ave., just east of Austin Boulevard, from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
