Why should anyone believe that Tom Barwin will honor his commitment to stay in Oak Park for at least five years when it was widely reported that he was interviewing for a position in Colorado in 2008?

The Oak Park village board obviously does, for they have lavished Barwin with a huge salary, bonus, free housing through April 2008, and subsidized housing now (where else can one rent a two-bedroom home in Oak Park for $1,200 a month?). [Oak Park village manager may buy village-owned home, News, Aug. 26]

The village board should cut its losses and have Barwin find a new home or pay the market value of the home where he currently lives. But then that would be a sound business decision, something that has been lacking in this village for many years.
