On Saturday, Oak Parkers marched from Mills Park to downtown with their pets, real and stuffed. From Great Danes to parrots to a dragon toy belonging to a boy in a Draco Malfoy robe, it was an animal-themed block party on Marion Street.
There were carnival games for children and tents with treats for everyone. Sirius Cooks, from Harrison Street, had a doggie buffet table. Trader Joe’s offered free cat-shaped cookies to passersby.
Of course, almost everyone at the block party brought a dog. Dogs were everywhere, down to a Chihuahua in a pink dress.
Even the rain couldn’t drive pet lovers away. Most people just whipped out umbrellas and kept on walking their dogs. A kitten cage was draped in a protective cover.
Music was provided by guitar teacher Annette Fritts and her student band, Guitar Cat. A portion of the proceeds went to Animal Care League.
