This Sunday, “Rockin’ for a Good Cause,” a battle of the bands, will take place at Harlem/Division Auto Repair, 1201 N. Harlem in Oak Park. Not your average music venue, granted, but roll with it because proceeds will go to Hephzibah Children’s Association and to the Oak Park and River Forest Food Pantry.
The battle runs from 3 till Admission is $3, or $2 if you bring a food pantry donation.
If you prefer a battle of the ballclubs, head over to The Park (that’s its name) in Forest Park to catch some of the action in the annual softball tournament known as the No Glove Nationals – basically, the World Series of 16-inch softball. Need a running start on plans for the first Friday in August? Note that tickets go on sale this Friday for FitzGerald’s Night Club’s tribute to Michael Jackson. FitzGerald’s will be bringing in the band TributoSaurus, which specializes in the niche known as “tribute pop.” And this band apparently goes all out. The Aug. 6 tribute to the king of pop will include TributoSaurus’s “multiple keyboard and guitar rigs, horn section, string section, a slew of guest vocalists, all the electronic percussion you can imagine, everything else that goes into re-creating some of the most meticulously produced music ever.” Best of all, they won’t be playing any Jackson 5 songs, just “pure Michael.”
