There is never any excuse for failing to obey traffic regulations, so I agree that the intoxicated teens in Brookfield should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. [Cyclists aren’t the enemy, Jack Crowe, July 1]

Now to the cyclists in Oak Park and River Forest. They also need to start appearing before the judge. Nearly 100 percent of the cyclists I encounter at controlled intersections in the two villages fail to obey the stop signs or traffic lights. I sit on my deck many weekend mornings and watch organized groups of cyclists blow through the stop sign near my house, without even slowing down. I also frequently encounter cyclists traveling the wrong way on one-way streets.

If Mr. Crowe really cares about the safety of cyclists, he will lead a campaign to get cyclists to obey all traffic laws, which apply to them as well as to the motorists with whom they share the road.
