River Forest police arrested an Illinois prison parolee Thursday afternoon after he allegedly threatened employees of the North Avenue Dominick’s with a knife during a retail theft.
Just before 1 p.m. Darryl Jordan, 40, was confronted by store employees who knew him from past incidents, and who allegedly saw him conceal $190 in merchandise on his person. When confronted at the front of the store, Jordan reportedly pulled a “long kitchen type knife” from his waist band and menaced the employees before running out of the store with the merchandise.
No one was harmed in the robbery.
Police spotted Jordan on the 1500 block of Clinton in River Forest, and he was arrested after a brief foot chase. The knife he allegedly used was found after a search in the 1500 block of Monroe.
Jordan was ordered held on $250,000 bond Thursday. In the interim, the Illinois Department of Corrections issued a no-bond warrant on Jordan for parole violation. According to IDOC records, Jordan was paroled last Tuesday from the latest of five prison sentences for retail theft.
