On Jan. 15, the Oak Park-River Forest Community Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago presented “Adventures of Haitian Art and Other Stories” at the Oak Park Library. More than 60 hearty art lovers braved frigid temperatures to attend a presentation by local gallery owner Laurie Beasley. Laurie gave an overview of the history of Haiti, including the influence of religious and cultural mores on Haitian artists and artwork.

This free lecture for members, guests and non-members began with coffee and refreshments, giving attendees time to get to know one another. Several guests decided to join the Community Associates group following the lecture. For membership information, please contact membership chair Barbara Carlson at 771-7864.
