Glenbard N. 4 1
OPRF         0 10

A hardy lunch eaten between the OPRF softball team’s doubleheader against Glenbard North on Saturday seemed to be what the Huskies needed. After falling to the Panthers 4-0 in the opener, OPRF pounded their non-conference opponent 10-1 in the nightcap.

K.C. Montgomery earned her third victory on the season by allowing just one earned run off five hits in Game 2. Montgomery struckout eight batters and walked none.

The Huskies’ bats, which were dormant in the opener, came alive in Game 2. The team scored four runs in the fifth inning to close the door on Glenbard North. Lauren Flannery (2 RBIs) and Megan White both doubled in runs in the inning, while Colleen Tolan added an RBI single.

Lauren Gonzalez added an extra insurance run in the sixth when she drove in Elena Citko with a groundball.

Leah Bry (4-2) took the loss in the opener, yielding four runs – one earned – off nine hits in seven innings. Bry allowed no walks and finished with 10 strikeouts.

Glenbard North scored all of their runs in the fifth inning. Hannah Santora earned the win by fanning 14 and allowing just four hits.

“Glenbard North is a very good team,” said OPRF head coach Mel Kolbusz. “But we need to beat pretty good teams if we want to get anywhere.

“We pitched well in the first game, but we struggled at the plate, which is something we’re trying to muddle through ever since falling to Lake Park. Hopefully, warm weather will help things.”

The Huskies, who lost to Lake Park 2-1 on April 4, travel to Triton College today (Wednesday, April 15) for a 4:30 p.m. game against area-rival Trinity. They return home on Saturday to host Glenbrook North (10 a.m.).

OPRF begins West Suburban (Silver) Conference action against York on April 20.
