A 52-year-old pizza delivery driver has been charged with a felony for allegedly failing to stop after hitting a young Chicago woman as she crossed Harlem Avenue Monday night. Jose Sinche, of the 4000 block of North Avenue in Chicago, was traveling south on Harlem around 10:15 p.m. when he allegedly struck the woman as she crossed the street within a crosswalk but against the light.

The woman is reported to still be in the hospital being treated for head injuries Wednesday morning.

River Forest police radioed a description of the car, which Oak Park police found unoccupied on the 1100 block of Pleasant about 10 minutes later. The car was identified by three witnesses to the accident.

Police say Sinche returned to his vehicle several minutes later, according to other reports after delivering a pizza. He was identified by witnesses as the driver and turned over to River Forest police.

River Forest deputy chief Kendra Sullivan said Wednesday that Sinche was formally charged with failure to stop after a personal injury accident, a felony, and refusal to give information after an injury accident, a misdemeanor. He was also ticketed for failure to report an accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
