The OPRF wrestling team faced its busiest time of the regular season last week and emerged without a scratch. The Huskies pummeled five teams in three days to keep its record unblemished at 19-straight victories.

The gamut began with the Huskies annihilating Hinsdale Central 46-12 on Thursday night, grabbing wins in the first eight bouts. On Friday night, Proviso West never stood a chance against the No. 1-ranked team in the state. OPRF downed the Panthers 57-9 to push its perfect West Suburban (Silver) Conference record to 5-0.

On Saturday, at the Dundee Crown Tournament, the Huskies won all three of their meets, racking up a win over the host 36-26, against Rockford Boylan 62-9 and against Lane 47-9.

Against Rockford Boylan, Chris Dardanes (125-pound weight class) came back to score a takedown win in overtime. Nick Dardanes, who is ranked No. 1 at 130 pounds, defeated Lane’s Max Schneider 16-12 in a hard-fought match. Schneider, a freshman, is ranked sixth in the weight class.

Kendall Hutchinson (112), Liam Pegg (119), Chris Dardanes (125), Charlie Johnson (130), Nick Dardanes (135), Ellis Coleman (140), Dan Martin (145) and Sam Brooks (152) led the Huskies to eight straight victories to open the match against Hinsdale Central. OPRF took a 36-0 lead and never looked back.

The Huskies travel to Lyons Township on Friday (Jan. 23) to try to take sole possession of the conference title. The Lions are currently 4-0 in the conference. A win would give OPRF its second straight title and third in five years.

On Saturday (9 a.m.), the Huskies will host their final tournament of the regular season.
