The OPRF wrestling team’s early season dominance continued last week as the Huskies swept through their own quad with victories on Saturday and defeated York in conference action on Friday.

OPRF crushed Addison Trail, 54-10, Notre Dame, 60-3, and Conant, 62-6, by winning 38 of 42 matches at its own quad.

“I was glad to see we came out ready to go in the quad,” said OPRF head coach Mike Powell. “Against York, we didn’t seem as focused.”

Winners on Saturday included Jake Venerable (125-weight class), Charlie Johnson (135), Danny Martin (152), Ben Brooks (189) and Matt Monson (heavyweight). Brooks defeated Addison Trail’s Arber Bebo 7-5. Bebo beat Brooks in the semifinals of last year’s sectional.

Monson (10-1) finished the day with three falls in three matches. “He’s a machine that doesn’t stop,” said Powell of his heavyweight.

On Friday, the Huskies downed York 33-25 in their first West Suburban (Silver) Conference match of the season. OPRF won eight of the 14 weight divisions. Venerable, Nick Dardanes (8-0), Aaron Minnis, Ellis Coleman (9-0), Danny Martin, Brooks, Monson and LaQuan Hightower (7-3) all won their weight divisions for the Huskies, who take on Glenbard West on Thursday (Dec. 11, 6:45 p.m.).

The schedule heats up this week as the No. 1-ranked OPRF travels to Downers Grove North on Friday for a duel meet, and Glenbard North on Saturday for a quad.
