I was shocked and appalled after reading all of the space in Wednesday Journal dedicated to the Frank Paris-bashers. Three quarters of a full page was given to Beverley Caraher. [It’s time for Frank Paris to resign, Viewpoints, July 2]

Who is Beverley Caraher? Does she live in the Village of River Forest? Does she regularly attend village board meetings? I am sorry, Ms. Caraher, but I have been a member of the village board in
River Forest for almost the last 10 years, and I do not believe we have ever met. Do you ever remember meeting me? Have you ever attended a village board meeting? If so, please refresh my memory and tell me why you think Frank Paris is such a bad person. If you live in the Village of River Forest, you have benefited directly and indirectly from the leadership of Frank Paris and the majority board members. Still in the dark? Here are some examples:

1) You can now shop in the village. What were once abandoned buildings is now a modern, state-of-the-art shopping center complete with Whole Foods, Panera Bread Restaurant, and Pompeii Bakery. I think that was a major improvement. Frank Paris and the majority board members brought this to you. The three minority board members and George Parry did not.

2) The sales tax revenue generated by this shopping center helped defray a substantial increase in your real estate tax bill. The creation of the TIF district on

Lake Street
averted money headed for the Cook County building on
LaSalle Street
and kept the tax revenue funds in our village to pay for village services including our schools. Frank Paris and the majority board members brought this to you. The three minority board members and George Parry did not.

3) Developers and builders have come to
River Forest and have built beautiful new condominium buildings, residences, and even a new state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation facility for those who need special rehabilitation services. Frank Paris and the majority board members brought all of this to you. Russ Nummer, George Parry, Steve Hoke, Steve Dudek, and Mike O’Connell brought none of this to you and the village.

Get your facts straight, Ms. Caraher, before you ask Frank Paris to resign. Get your facts straight, Ms. Caraher, by coming to the village board meetings and by being an active participant in your community.

What George Parry and company have brought to you and the village is dissension, chaos, dissatisfaction, and a whole host of other ills perpetuated by people like you. I look forward to seeing you at the next regular village board meeting.
