One of the things my husband and I enjoy doing the most in Oak Park is going for long walks. Of course we walk on the sidewalk and are happy to move to the side for runners passing by or walkers coming from the opposite direction. However, we do not enjoy moving for bikers on the sidewalk. I understand that young children ride their bikes on the sidewalk since they are inexperienced riders and aren’t ready to share the road with cars. However, there is absolutely no reason why teenagers and adults should be riding their bikes on the sidewalk instead of in the street. Cars need to be on the lookout for bikers so they can share the road and leave the sidewalks for pedestrians to enjoy leisurely walks without the constant worry of being run over by bikers coming from behind!
