Oak Park residents John and Ann Gearen recently enjoyed a triple celebration when their son John (center), daughter Sarah (right) and daughter-in-law Molly Christiansen (left) all received graduate degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. John received an MBA from the Ross School of Business and a master’s from Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and Energy. Sarah received an MBA and a master’s from the School of Advanced International Study from Johns Hopkins University. Molly earned an MBA and a master’s from Michigan’s School of Public Health.

He really gave Iowa a try

John Eggum recently graduated from the University of Iowa, School of Law. A 2001 graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School, Eggum also attended the University of Iowa as an undergraduate.

Scholar athlete

Carl Moravec, son of Juliann and Richard Moravec of Oak Park, recently graduated from Earlham College in Richmond, Ind., with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Japanese Studies. Moravec was the recipient of the Wendell M. Stanley Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, given to seniors who have combined significant participation in intercollegiate athletics with an unusually high level of academic achievement.

Bilingual

Oak Parker Elizabeth Carroll recently graduated magna cum laude from Lake Forest College with a bachelor of arts degree in French and history. She was awarded the McPherson Prize for Excellence in Scholarship in French. A graduate of Trinity High School, Carroll was elected into Phi Beta Kappa for superior academic achievement and Phi Sigma Iota, the undergraduate honorary society for modern languages.

Economically excellent

Oak Parker Paige Winkels recently graduated cum laude from Lake Forest College with a bachelor of arts in economics. She received honors in her major and was awarded distinction for her senior thesis. A graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School, Winkels was elected into Omicron Delta Epsilon, the undergraduate honorary society for economics.

Studying peace and conflict

Jane Kinoy Weber, daughter of Joanne Kinoy and Mark Weber of Oak Park, recently graduated magna cum laude from Haverford College in Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology with concentration in Peace and Conflict Studies. Weber is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Tuning up

Oak Parker Katharine Merrick recently graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Music degree.

Senior-itis

Carole Schwartz of Oak Park, a graduate student in gerontology at Kansas State University, was recently elected to membership in the all-discipline honor society Phi Kappa Phi.

Doc Allen

Oak Park resident Kiona Allen, daughter of Lynn and Al Allen, recently graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Society. A 2000 graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School, Allen graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania. She begins her residency in Pediatrics at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago in July.
