We appreciated the space your paper allocated for the coverage of A DAY IN OUR VILLAGE Festival-pre- and post-event.
A DAY IN OUR VILLAGE was originally conceived to celebrate and embrace our community’s racial and economic diversity and continues to add and include all, regardless of age, sexual orientation, political affiliation and religion. A DAY spotlights groups for all to become aware of all facets of Oak Park in which to become involved: civic, cultural, social service, business, religious, educational, etc.
Nearly 170 organizations participated this year in ScovillePark, besides the entertainers on stage and the local food vendors in the lovelyFood Court. Great fun was had from the Park District’s games and festivities located in RehmPark.
On behalf of the DAY 2008 Festival Committee, we would like to thank the following Top Sponsors for their very generous and gracious support of this 35th year of DAYS: Park National Bank, Park District of Oak Park, Wednesday Journal, Community Bank and the Village of Oak Park.
Kind donors in the Supporter category are: Oakparkapartments.com (for chairing, gear transportation and meals for all the volunteers), Oak Park Township Senior Services – Transportation (for the wonderful mini-buses), Oak Park Regional Housing Center, Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation, WestSuburbanMedicalCenter and Minuteman Press of Oak Park (for the fantastic design & layout of the posters and programs).
Let us truly applaud this year’s Festival Committee co-chairs who oversee the framework for all the festivities! It is a pleasure to work with these very, very committed people who dedicate their time and energy to produce this celebration for villagers. First of all, we are fortune to have residents who saw a need in Oak Park for this festival in 1973 and, secondly, who volunteer for this event among all their affiliations to other community organizations, family responsibilities and work obligations.
Several 2008 chairs grew up attending A DAY IN OUR VILLAGE with their families or bringing their children, and, now they bring their children to help set up A DAY. Special thanks go to Emily Plourde, William Planek, Kevin Sheehan and lots of their friends. Without them there would be no DAY!
