Hildebrand shook off any early morning sluggishness to upend Ronbo 11-6 in the opening round of the PONY Cunningham Division playoffs at Lindberg Park on Saturday. The team then went on to edge Huron Consulting in a 16-15 shootout on Sunday.

Hildebrand, a team that went 16-5 during the regular season to win the league title, was a huge favorite in the opening game. But Team Ronbo (5-16) gave the premiere team a run after being roused late in the early-morning contest.

Zack Weigel started on the mound for Hildebrand, and tossed six strong innings. Weigel allowed only two earned runs, while striking out six. Team Ronbo looked asleep early. Weigel had a no-hitter going through two innings, and in the second struck out the side. The no-hitter was broken when Jay Van Linden came up and hit a line drive single to right field.

Team Ronbo came alive in the fourth, led by Ryan Huettel’s single to start off the inning. Huettel then stole second and third, and advanced home on an error. Ronbo added one more run in the inning.

At the plate, Hildebrand’s 1-2-3 hitters in the lineup shined. Weigel, the leadoff hitter, went 2-for-2, scoring two runs and driving in two. The No. 2 hitter, Michael Rajter, finished with two hits and scored three runs. The No. 3 hitter, Ted Herbstritt, went 3-for-4 with four RBIs.

In the seventh inning with Hildebrand leading 11-3, and Weigel off the mound, Team Ronbo rallied to score three runs.

Ronbo’s Ryan Huettel went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the game, while Van Linden went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Joe Luther added an RBI double.

Hildebrand went on to edge Huron Consulting 16-15 on Sunday. The team trailed 4-0 after the first inning before Weigel and Rajter hit back-to-back homers. Weigel went 3-for-4 in the game with four RBIs. Rajter scored four runs, and Andy Drumm added three RBIs.

Hildebrand takes on Anderson today at Lindberg Park (5:30 p.m.).
