The local neighborhood has been bitterly divided over the issue of a business in this building. I am not sure why people on the 700 block would worry about their property values being lowered with a cafe two blocks away (I would love to see the reporter’s notes on that one.).
Some folks on the 800 block of Lyman thought the cafe would bring a scourge upon their block, possibly cracking the earth and opening the gates of hell. Others were almost giddy with excitement, reminiscing about the “old” days when the neighborhood bars brought residents together.
I can’t wait to visit Eastgate; it sounds like a wonderful addition to the “Arts” District.
Now, if we could just do something about those ugly gateways, pseudo-sculpture thingies that really do look like the gates of hell. Maybe that neighbor on Lyman was right after all.
