An OPRF/Fenwick cross-town showdown wasn’t meant to be for the two softball programs. On May 21, the Friars lost 7-6 to Argo in the semifinal of their own regional. However, OPRF went on to shutout Argo 5-0 in the championship game at the Dominican Priory in River Forest on Saturday.
Lauren Gonzalez blasted a two-run homer and drove in four runs for the Huskies. Sara Hutchinson earned her 12th-victory on the season by tossing five innings of one-hit ball.
In the opening round of the regional on May 20, the Huskies downed Clemente 10-0 in six innings. Pitcher K.C. Montgomery earned her third victory on the season.
OPRF (27-8) takes on Morton today (Wednesday, 4 p.m.) in the opening round of the Morton Sectional. A victory would pit the Huskies against either Lyons Township or No. 2-seed Queen of Peace at Morton on Saturday (10 a.m.).
