Twenty-eight track and field athletes from Julian Middle School qualified for the state tournament by finishing strong at sectionals.

Malachy Schrobilgen, Nick Reyes and Carl Heinz led the school’s 8th-grade boys team. Schrobilgen won the 1600 and the 800, while Heinz took first in the high jump (5-feet-8-inches). Reyes finished second in the 1600.

Erin Svehla led the girls by taking first in three individual events and helping the 4×100-relay team to first place. Svehla won the 100 and 200 dashes, along with the high-jump (4-10). Stekara Hall won the long jump, and Liz Reyes took first in the 1600.

At the 7th-grade level, Lionel Townes (100) and Donzeil Acker (hurdles) won their respective events. Conor McIlwann, Alex Darnall, Malcolm Range and Nick Bezinovich also qualified with a second place finish in the 4 x 400 relay. Other qualifiers included, Jamal Baggett (200), Neil Josephs (shotput), and Sam Demaree (800).

Erin Schrobilgen (1600), Mary Puls (800), Takira Owens (100 and 200), Amari Wilkerson (hurdles) all qualified for the 7th-grade girls. In addition, Teresa Hirmer, Nicole Loud, Tatianna Phillips and Owens finished first in the 4×100 relay.

Wilkerson, Chaundia Jones, Natalie Richardson and Caroline Coughlin also took second in the 4×200 relay.
