The OPRF soccer team geared up for the Class AA State playoffs with a 3-0 pasting of Maine West on Friday.

Casey Blaha, Colleen Harmon and Tasia Race all posted goals for the Huskies, who kicked off the playoffs last night against Kennedy (deadline).

OPRF, who closed out the regular season with an overall record of 14-7-2 and a West Suburban (Silver) Conference mark of 3-3, is likely to take on area-rival Trinity for the Oak Park Regional Championship on Friday (4 p.m.). The Huskies defeated the Blazers 2-0 earlier in the season.

The winner will take on the winner of the Nazareth Regional on Tuesday at Lyons.

Campagna wins at No. 3 singles

Fenwick tennis player Dominic Campagna finished first at the Chicago Catholic League Championships on Friday.

Campagna won at No. 3 singles by defeating Matt Bevenour of Loyola 6-7, 6-2, 6-4.

Tyler Keifer and Ed Crane finished second at No. 1 doubles, as did Marty Mullen and Dave Elias at second doubles.

The Friars finished second overall with a score of 33.

Burnett wins two
in state prelims

OPRF’s Alanna Burnett won two matches during the preliminaries of the IHSA State Badminton Meet held at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston last week. Two losses prevented Burnett from making it to the finals on Saturday.

Prior to competing at state, the Huskies finished second at the Downers Grove North Sectional. Burnett finished first in singles, while Monica Rains and Elise Ford finished fourth in doubles play.

Back to state for Friars

The Fenwick girls water polo team won its own sectional on Saturday with a 10-4 victory over St. Ignatius. Morgan Bonk led the Friars with six goals.

Fenwick, which finished runner-up at state last season, takes on Homewood-Flossmoor in the state quarterfinals on Friday.

OPRF’s season ends

The OPRF girls water polo team’s stellar season came to a conclusion with a hard-fought 9-7 loss to St. Ignatius in the semifinal of the Fenwick Sectional on Friday.

Audrey Reardon led the Huskies with seven goals and four steals.

Vicki Maslowski notched 14 saves in goal for OPRF.

In the quarterfinals, the Huskies blanked Lincoln Park 14-0. Paige Gruber led the way with three goals and three steals. Maslowski and Isabel Firpo combined for the shutout. Maslowski finished with three blocks, while Firpo had five.

Fenwick softball
falls to JC

The Fenwick softball team suffered a two-game sweep at the hands of Joliet Catholic last weekend.

The Friars (5-18, 2-15) lost 7-4 on Friday and 5-0 on Saturday.

Bridget Ellsworth went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Fenwick on Friday.
