My husband, Rick Prescott, was the 59-year-old man who collapsed at the Fitness Formula Club on Monday, March 3. [Heart defibrillator saves another life, News, March 26]. Without the quick response of club manager Jeff Long and his staff, and the incredibly generous actions of club members, Dr. David Muzic and Amy Mozina, a nurse, the outcome would have been very different. When CPR did not revive Rick, the use of the AED absolutely saved his life.

Thanks also goes to the Oak Park Fire Department paramedics, who responded in record time, and the nurses and doctors at West Suburban Hospital. Rick had triple bypass surgery on March 6 and is now recovering.

We are eternally indebted to the kindness of the many strangers who saved his life.
