The Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation celebrated 2007’s accomplishments at its annual meeting on February 11. Last year, the foundation provided more than one million dollars in grants and scholarships and saw its assets grow by 17% to over $13,000,000. The annual meeting, held at the Carleton Hotel, provided an opportunity to discuss not only the past achievements of the organization, but also the foundation’s role as a convener and a catalyst in eliciting new ideas to achieve community-wide solutions. Jay Connor of the Collaboratory for Community Support spoke briefly about “Best Practices for Building Connections Across Sectors.”

The foundation honored former president James Winikates and outgoing board members Carlotta Lucchesi, Shirley Klem, and Robert Moore. Boyd McDowell replaced David Valenti as the foundation’s current president. Guests met board members new to the foundation in 2008: Attila Weninger, superintendent of District 200, Mary Jo Schuler, co-founder of the Good Heart Work Smart Foundation, and Gloria Cox, with the Cambridge Group.
