A bookstore plans to expand on

Lake Street
in Downtown Oak Park this spring. But it is not the national or regional chain bookstore that is growing, but the locally owned shop.

The Book Table-selling discount books at

1045 Lake St.
for five years-has plans to lease a storefront to the east, which would nearly double its current size.

The bookstore has signed a lease for

1035 Lake St.
, which is just east and currently occupied by Designs of the Interior. The interior design company has been in downtown since 2003 and plans to relocate.

“We’re sorry to see our neighbor leave

Lake Street
, but we’re thrilled by the opportunity  to expand,” co-owner Rachel Weaver said in a press release.

Owners say the store is “bursting at the seams,” and the present space doesn’t allow them to provide all the products desired.

Renovation of the new space will start in April, and the new store should open in July, the release said. The Book Table will only close for a few days in the last part of the expansion.

“We will still be the same mom and pop store,” co-owner Jason Smith said in the release. “We’ll just be a bit bigger.”
