I do hope the drapes are nice [There will be blood … if Day-Lewis doesn’t win an Oscar, LifeLines, Jan. 30]. Day-Lewis may very well win, but it’s not because there is anything new about his portrayal of yet another wildcatter. Did you see something different, something not expected? No. Johnny Depp could have been nominated a dozen times in the past if it were just based on Hollywood popularity. Clearly you know nothing about musical performance. He probably won’t win, but if he does, the craft displayed is vastly more impressive, and unique, than one more turn of the Day-Lewis assembly line.
