A 2 a.m. zoning hearing is inexcusableA zoning meeting that lasts until 2 a.m.! [OPRF lights ruling expected from zoning board Jan. 8, News, Dec. 12.] As a professional city planner with a fair amount of experience in zoning hearings, this is simply offensive and inexcusable. No zoning hearing should run past 11 p.m. at the latest. I am ashamed at how attorneys have so perverted zoning hearings and, with the complicity of zoning boards, turned them into marathons. Of course, in Oak Park, part of the problem is the poor guidance one village attorney has given the zoning hearing bodies on how to conduct a zoning hearing. What a shame for one of the finest villages in Illinois to have such a messy and unmanageable hearing process.
