The 2008 Presidential Primary in Illinois is a month early this year, Feb. 5. That means citizens need to make sure they are registered to vote even earlier.

The League of Women Voters of Oak Park and River Forest would like to remind everyone that the deadline to register to vote is Jan. 8, 2008, when most of us are emerging from our holiday haze.

You can register to vote in the following ways: by mail-in application; in person by visiting a designated voter registration location such as your village hall, township office or local library; or by a qualified Deputy Registrar. Make sure you have two forms of identification with you, including one with your current address.

Remember, if you have moved since the last election and are not registered at your current address, you must re-register to vote and meet the 30-day residency requirement in order to vote in your new precinct.

For more detailed information, visit the Cook County Clerk’s website at www.voterinfonet.com.

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
