Electric service to 1,500 central Oak Park homes and businesses was interrupted just before 1:30 p.m., Saturday. As of 3:45 p.m., power had been restored to the last 40 customers affected. A ComEd spokesperson said they are currently investigating the cause of the outage.
The outage also knocked out traffic signals throughout the affected area, snarling traffic. Police and public works crews dropped down stop signs at those intersections.
Oak Park police Community Service Officer Heidi Nelson said they had received word from ComEd that the area affected was bordered by South Boulevard to the north, Harrison Street to the south, Wesley Avenue to the east and Maple Avenue to the west.
“My power came back on just before 3 p.m.,” said David Williams of Oak Park Cigar, 823 Oak Park Avenue.
“As for a cause, we’re looking at a ‘feeder lockout,'” said ComEd spokesperson Arlana Johnson. “We’re not sure why that happened. It’s still under investigation.”
