The article about the Farmers’ Market is absurd [No bread, or cheese, at 2008 Farmers’ Market, News, Nov. 21]. Why can’t the local businesses (Marion Street Cheese, Prairie Bread, etc.) sell their products at the market as well? Is there really a need to abolish other small businesses because they raise the competition? Obviously Red Hen and the Cheese People are both vendors that customers, no doubt local Oak parkers, enjoy. Yet, those businesses will no longer get to participate. Maybe if taxes and rent in Oak Park were less, local business owners wouldn’t have to scratch their way to every dollar. Also, I must agree with those who think the market should be on Marion. It would definitely do some good for Downtown Oak Park to have the market. What could be the harm? Just close the street that morning.
