On the heels of Trattoria 225’s successful opening in the Oak Park Arts District, another eatery will serve customers along Harrison Street sometime in the near future.
Briejo, a restaurant and bar, will open some time next year at 211 Harrison St. said Chris Kleronomos, partner of C.D. Klere Properties Limited, which owns numerous buildings in the business district. His family and company have been in the neighborhood for over 100 years.
The restaurant owner signed a lease two months ago.
Situated just west of Lombard, the space stood empty for the last four or five years. Down the block from Brown Elephant resale shop, it’s sandwiched between two currently empty storefronts, both of which Klere Properties owns. It’s approximately 1,600 square feet, allowing for a “smaller-type” restaurant, Kleronomos said.
For many years the space was home to an electrical engineering company owned by Kleronomos. The building is structurally sound, but Kleronomos said his company is doing a few things to renovate it and other spots, cosmetically, to accommodate individual tenants.
“We’re working hard at both getting retail and attracting what we really think would be good fits for the business district,” Kleronomos said. “There’s a lot of galleries on the street, but we’re working hard at bringing food service businesses in that would bring people in [and make it] more of a destination oriented location, as well as local retail that would accommodate the neighborhood.”
