Oak Park’s Ascension School has been named one of the nation’s No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools, the Archdiocese of Chicago recently announced.

Ascension, 601 Van Buren St., was one of seven Catholic schools in the Archdiocese to receive the honor, which was announced last Thursday. The recognition, awarded by the U.S. Department of Education, honors schools that “make significant progress in closing the achievement gap or whose students achieve at very high levels,” according to a statement released by the archdiocese.

Six elementary schools and one high school were selected this year including: St. Colette in Rolling Meadows, St. Francis de Sales in Lake Zurich, St. Germaine in Oak Lawn, Immaculate Conception in Chicago, St. Mary of Annunciation in Mundelein, and Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein.
