Fenwick junior and River Forest native Chris Wendt helped the U.S. Water Polo Cadet team place first at the Pan American Youth games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Wendt, who has been a member of Fenwick’s state champion boys water polo teams since his freshman year, scored 10 goals in the tournament. He has been a member of the national team for five years.
Wendt is the only player from outside of California to make the Traveling Cadet “A” team of only 13 players.
Windmills finish strong at 129-team tourney
After winning the AFA National title, the Windmills 14U Blue team went 6-2 at the Amatuer Softball Association 14U National Championship to place 13th out of 129 teams. The Windmills’ final record for the season, which began in the fall of 2006, was 78-23-3. The team consisted of Lauren Flannery, Shannon Cawley, Lauren Carranza, Rachel Schlessinger, Leah Bry, Jay Gremley, Jessica Wilkes, Cecilia Portillo, Aly Brems, Brianna LeBeau, Krista Lupinski, Hannah Press, and Marisa Belpedio.
Huskies set tryout date
The Oak Park-River Forest Huskies Girls Fastpitch Softball Club has set its tryout schedule for the 2007-08 season as follows:
Saturday, Aug. 25 at Ridgeland Common (Lake St. and Ridgeland in Oak Park)
8 and under-9 a.m. until 10 a.m.
10 and under-10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
12 and under-11 a.m. until Noon
14 and under-Noon until 1 p.m.
16 and under-1 p.m. until 2 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 26th is the rain date.
The second tryout date is Sunday, Sept. 9 at Ridgeland Common. Same time schedule as 8/25 applies.
To determine which age level to try out for, girls should use their age as of 1/1/08. For instance, any girl who is 13 on January 1st of next year is too old to play at the 12 and under level and should try out for the 14 and under level.
