I was delighted to read Brad Spencer’s column about Oak Park baseball legend Jerry Rice in this week’s Wednesday Journal [If there’s a ballgame, chances are Jerry’s there, Brad Spencer, June 27]. Jerry was my first Oak Park baseball coach 30 years ago, and he is still going strong. I have had the privilege of participating in Oak Park youth baseball as a player, umpire, and coach since the 1970s and can confidently say that Jerry Rice is the finest and most committed individual I have ever had the honor of working with on Oak Park’s baseball diamonds. Thank you for recognizing such a wonderful individual.
