A meeting slated to be a closed-door discussion of appointments turned sour quickly Monday for the River Forest village board.
By the end of the meeting, less than an hour later, trustees had walked out, no business had been conducted, and some question remained as to whether the board ever entered closed session.
“[There] was an incredible lack of decorum,” said Trustee Susan Conti after the meeting. “You expect [people] to disagree. Among rational people, those things can be ironed out.”
The trouble started when Village Clerk Catherine Adduci arrived late and President Frank Paris asked Jason Slowinski, assistant to the village manager, to stand in as clerk. Confirmation of the deputy clerk has been a contentious issue.
Arguments erupted and the meeting devolved, board members said, with three trustees and Paris leaving the meeting at different times. Paris did not know if or when the meeting would be rescheduled.
