I was so delighted to see Wednesday Journal’s endorsement of NLP candidate, Mary Shiffer. Mary is a bright and competent candidate and will serve the village well. Your publication has repeatedly called for civility in Oak Park governance, and while some may not agree, I salute the Journal for its overall civility and sensitivity in presenting its choices for the village board.
One omission that puzzled me, however, was Barbara Dolan. I was present at the NLP caucus meeting when Barbara interviewed for the position. My immediate reaction was here is someone to be reckoned with. As I’ve watched her campaign tirelessly, my initial impression has been confirmed. She is the type of person who, once she commits to something, she honors that commitment.
Her background in marketing would also be a great asset to the board, especially in the area of attracting new businesses to our village.
Endorsements are important, but they are but one tool for voters to consider when choosing their candidates.
I ask all Oak Park voters to consider Barbara Dolan for trustee when you vote April 17. Her energy, enthusiasm and willingness to immerse herself in issues important to Oak Parkers will bring a great vitality to the village board.
