I ask all members of the Oak Park and River Forest community to support the continued service of Barry Greenwald on the District 200 Board of Education. Dr. Greenwald currently serves as the board’s president.
Under his leadership, the quality of education has remained high. Unlike many other school districts throughout the state of Illinois, Dist. 200 has a surplus. Yes, we have all paid for it through our taxes; however it is better to be in this position than the reverse. In fact there is serious board discussion of sharing some of the high school surplus with District 97, which is currently experiencing a deficit.
With these achievements, there are still difficult issues facing Dist. 200: the selection of a new superintendent, the achievement gap, the continuing issues raised by the minority of special education parents, and maintaining the fiscal integrity of the district.
I have known Barry Greenwald for over 30 years. He is an open, intelligent, fair, and creative person. He has brought these important attributes, along with his considerable insights as a clinical psychologist, to the board. His peers have recognized these traits in their selection of him as their leader.
Along with his running mates Yasmin Ranney and John Allen, we have a “dream team” of experience, commitment, and diversity that truly reflects both villages.
