During the past several weeks the same misleading artist’s rendering of the restreeted mall has appeared in the media. The view is south to north from the perspective, perhaps, of the Metra tracks, or a helicopter hovering over North Boulevard and Marion Street.

The view seems to show a wide street, narrowing in perspective as the street recedes into the distance. But in fact, from the angle drawn, the open space in the foreground includes the current parking lot at the south end of the mall. This indeed is a spacious view of a proposed street but the illusion is false. Is it possible to see renderings from the north end of the block? Maybe my sense that there is not room to squeeze parking, trees, outdoor dining, pedestrians and cars in this cowpath is wrong, but the drawings shown are unpersuasive.
