After President Bush’s “surge speech” in which he concluded, “Trust me, we can make it work this time,” I remember a motto: Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me.

Who is keeping count of the administration’s spins that sound like bumper stickers: Shock and Awe, Slam Dunk, Bring it on, Dead or Alive, Last Throes, Mission Accomplished, Heckuva job, Smoking gun is a mushroom cloud, Uranium from Africa, As Iraqis stand up, we’ll stand down.

As past performance predicts future behavior, let us insist that Congress not follow this leader, knowing it’s “the same old, same old.”
