An Oak Park teenager stabbed during a fight on Lake Street outside Tasty Dog restaurant Tuesday night is expected to make a full recovery, police say.

The youth, a 16-year-old Oak Park and River Forest High School student, was stabbed in the back by another 16-year-old after the two began fighting over a girl, said Oak Park police.

Police were able track down the identity of the assailant after his victim gave them a first name and the town he lived in. They obtained a photo, and the victim identified the subject as his attacker.

Juvenile officers drove to Homewood Flossmoor High School Wednesday morning and arrested the boy, who is in custody and is expected to be charged with aggravated battery.

Police stressed that the altercation had nothing to do with either high school.

“The only connection to the high school is that the [victim] goes there,” said Oak Park Deputy Police Chief Bob Scianna. “This is not about the high school. It’s about a girl.”
