Lund named All-American Athlete

Former OPRF softball player Maura Lund was selected All-American Scholar Athlete by the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association. Lund, a 2004 graduate of OPRF, pitches for Seton Hall.

The NFCA recognizes athletes with a GPA of 3.5 or higher as scholar athletes.

Three Friars named to national team

Senior Luke Baldwin, freshman Stephanie Ovalle and sophomore Chris Wendt of River Forest-all students at Fenwick High School-were named to the men’s and women’s National Water Polo teams last week. The teams are organized by USA Water Polo, Inc., a non-profit corporation that serves as the national governing body for the sport of water polo in the United States.

Sakellaris in championship bowl

Former OPRF High School three-sport athlete Max Sakellaris is a starting offensive lineman for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team that will play in the NCAA Division III championship in Salem, Virginia on Saturday. Wisconsin-Whitewater lost to Mt. Union (OH) in the championship game last season.

Soccer camp

The Oak Park and River Forest Strikers Soccer Club has started registration for their weekend winter indoor soccer training program (weekly camp) for young players, grades 1-5. Program dates: Jan. 6,-March 18 (11 weeks, one-hour sessions). The camp is to be held in local school gymnasiums conducted by certified, licensed, professional coaches. The ACORN Academy program is geared toward players ages U7 through U11, grades 1 through 5, who are not currently registered with any traveling soccer clubs (Strikers players have their own separate winter training).
