The Dominican University men’s soccer team advanced to the NCAA Division III Elite Eight with a 4-2 shootout victory over the Montclair State University after playing to a 1-1 tie through double-overtime. The Stars then fell 2-0 to the Ohio Wesleyan Bishops, bringing the Stars’ season to a close.

The Stars played from behind on both occasions, surrendering a goal in the 24th minute to Montclair State on Saturday and in the 19th minute to Ohio Wesleyan on Sunday. The only difference in the two games was a goal by sophomore defender Rigoberto Barajas in the 83rd minute kept the Stars alive against Montclair.

“We weren’t used to playing without the lead,” said Erick Baumann, the Stars’ head coach. “We pressed so hard to get that goal on Saturday that we didn’t have enough left in the tank to get us through Sunday.”

The Stars finished the season with an overall record of 20-2-2, winning the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) with a perfect 9-0-0 record and winning the NAC tournament title.
